SLEFO provides school students under 20 the valuable opportunity to showcase their knowledge in economics/finance and represent Sri Lanka at the International Economics Olympiad, the world championship in economics.Winners of SLEFO will also receive valuable medals and certificates.Watch this space for information about SLEFO 2025!
SLEFO 2025
The first round of the Sri Lanka Economics and Finance Olympiad 2025 will be held in early 2025. The contest will consist of a multiple-choice question (MCQ) paper in economics and finance topics.Top scorers of the first round will be invited to the second round which consists of MCQs and essay questions in economics and finance. Students reaching the second round will receive merit certificates, while those selected to the team will be awarded medals.The five students who get the highest scores at the second round will be selected as the Sri Lankan team for the International Economics Olympiad 2025, which will be held in July in Azerbaijan.To be eligible for SLEFO, you must be
- a Sri Lankan citizen
- born on or after 1st July 2005
- currently enrolled in a Sri Lankan school
- have not taken any coursework at a university
The IEO
The International Economics Olympiad is the world championship competition in economics and business for high school students.
It is held every year in a different country, with the 2025 edition being hosted in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The SLEFO is run by a small team of enthusiastic volunteers who are keen on ensuring Sri Lankan students gain access to world-class opportunities. The competition is overseen by two standing boards, the Executive Board and the Academic Board.

SLEFO 2024 First Round
Welcome to the SLEFO Online Examination System!Please read the following instructions carefully.
The exam has 20 multiple-choice questions and 3 open-ended questions with a maximum possible score of 190.
The exam will be conducted solely in English medium.
You have been sent a Google Meet link via WhatsApp. You must join the Google Meet link before starting the exam. Furthermore, you must share your screen and have your microphone and camera on for the entire exam. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
You can start the exam anytime between 3 pm - 3.30 pm on June 2nd, 2024. Once started, you have 180 minutes to complete the exam. The exam page will show the remaining time you have.
If you start the exam after 3.30 pm, your submission will be invalid.
If you accidentally close your browser during the competition, you can return to this page and continue the test.
The timer will keep running even if you close the browser.
Do not open the exam on multiple tabs; your answers may not be saved properly if you do so.
For each multiple-choice question, you will receive 5 points if the answer is correct, 0 points if you selected "No answer" (or did not select an option), and -1 point if the answer is incorrect.
Each open-ended question is worth 30 points.
Once you finish answering, you must click "Submit" to submit your answers. You cannot change the answers or access the quiz again once you click "Submit".
The 5 top-scoring students of the second round will be selected to represent Sri Lanka at the International Economics Olympiad 2024.
You will receive the results of the first round by June 23rd. All scores are final and cannot be appealed.
The SLEFO Academic Board reserves the right to disqualify students who do not comply with the rules and regulations of the competition.
