Sri Lanka Economics and Finance Olympiad 2024

SLEFO provides school students under 20 the valuable opportunity to showcase their knowledge in economics/finance and represent Sri Lanka at the International Economics Olympiad, the world championship in economics.Winners of SLEFO will also receive valuable medals and certificates.Round 1: April 27th, 2024 from 10 am to 11.30 am
Round 2: May 24th, 2024 from 9 am to 12 noon

SLEFO 2023

The first round of the Sri Lanka Economics and Finance Olympiad 2024 will be held online on April 27th, 2024 from 10 am to 11.30 am. The contest will consist of a multiple-choice question (MCQ) paper in economics and finance topics.Top scorers of the first round will be invited to the second round which consists of MCQs and essay questions in economics and finance. The second round will be held on May 24th, 2024 from 9 am to 12 noon. Students reaching the second round will receive merit certificates, while those selected to the team will be awarded medals.The five students who get the highest scores at the second round will be selected as the Sri Lankan team for the International Economics Olympiad 2024, which will be held in July in Hong Kong.To be eligible for SLEFO, you must be
- a Sri Lankan citizen
- born on or after 1st July 2004
- currently enrolled in a Sri Lankan school
- have not taken any coursework at a university

The IEO

The International Economics Olympiad is the world championship competition in economics and business for high school students.
It is held every year in a different country, with the 2024 edition being hosted by Hong Kong.

SLEFO 2024 First Round

Welcome to the SLEFO Online Examination System!Please read the following instructions carefully.

  • The exam has 20 multiple-choice questions with a maximum possible score of 100.

  • The exam will be conducted solely in English medium.

  • This is a closed-book exam. Students are not allowed to use any notes, textbooks, etc. during the exam or to browse the internet except to access the examination system. Any violation of this policy detected by the examination system will lead to immediate disqualification.

  • You can start the exam anytime between 10 am - 10.15 am on April 27th, 2024. Once started, you have 90 minutes to complete the exam. The exam page will show the remaining time you have.

  • If you start the exam after 10.15 am, your submission will be invalid.

  • If you accidentally close your browser during the competition, you can return to this page and continue the test.

  • The timer will keep running even if you close the browser.

  • Do not open the exam on multiple tabs; your answers may not be saved properly if you do so.

  • For each question, you will receive 5 points if the answer is correct, 0 points if you selected "No answer" (or did not select an option), and -1 point if the answer is incorrect.

  • Once you finish answering, click "Submit" to submit your answers. You will not be allowed to change the answers or access the quiz again once you click "Submit".

  • At most 20 top-scoring students of the first round will be invited to the SLEFO Second Round which will be held on May 24th. The Second Round is currently being planned as an in-person exam. We will inform the venue to selected students.

  • You will receive the results of the first round by May 13th. All scores are final and cannot be appealed.

  • The SLEFO Academic Board reserves the right to disqualify students who do not comply with the rules and regulations of the competition.
